I have a B.A. in English from Columbia University and an M.A. in English from Holy Names University. As an instructor at Berkeley City College for over a decade, I taught numerous courses in composition, literature, and critical thinking. As a private tutor and writing coach, I’ve worked with writers of all ages and skill levels. I’ve even worked as a professional reader for the College Board, scoring the essay portion of the new SAT. I give feedback on perceived strengths and weaknesses in writing with compassion and encouragement. My hope is to teach clients to become their best editors.
I tutor students at my home in the San Francisco Bay Area. I only tutor on weekdays—no weekends. If you live out of the area and would like writing feedback through email and phone calls, we can work that out as well. I have years of experience working with elementary, middle school, high school and community college students as well as adults of all ages. I’ve helped many students prepare to take the SAT or to write essays for their college applications. Each lesson will be tailored to your individual needs. I have grammar books, short story and poetry anthologies, and critical thinking textbooks that we can use to supplement your own homework. These can be easily ordered online and used as our texts.
As a writer, I have worked in many genres. I have written short stories, essays, articles, poetry, one-woman shows and two novels. My work has appeared in the Columbia Guide to New York, The Columbia Alumni Magazine, New York Nightlife, The Fire Island Tide, The Oakland Tribune, Conscious Choice Magazine, Zillah Literary Quarterly, Wild Violets Literary Review, and other publications. My one-woman show, Panic!, is available on Amazon. My novels, Playing Hooky and Close Enough for Jazz are available at Amazon.
I look forward to hearing from you!
