about me

I grew up in a farmhouse in Smithville, Indiana, surrounded by twenty acres of land, miles of railroad track, and a menagerie of animals. To entertain ourselves, we'd look for fossils in the creek, hang out at the limestone quarries, or go "corning," which consisted of standing on the railroad tracks at night and dropping kernels of dried field corn on the cars as they drove by. I never felt bored until I moved to a big city.

My inspiration comes from the plants and animals of the Midwest and the West Coast, and I like doing colored pencil drawings and watercolors of objects found in nature, like shells, seedpods, leaves, and fruits. I also like to create collages and colored pencil drawings of what I call "fantasy landscapes" which include real and imaginary flora and fauna, and usually contain one or two cats.

Nowadays, I live in the San Francisco Bay Area with my husband, five cats, and a suspiciously large rabbit which eats cat food and has the run of the yard. When I'm not doodling or painting, I might be hiking, writing, playing the flute, or talking to the animals.
